Hot keys of the “View” application on Mac: 10 useful shortcuts

1. Launching the slide show function in the Preview application

Select the desired images and click Command (⌘) + O. This action will open selected files in the Viewer application.

To use the slide show feature, press Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + F. This action will display the content in full screen mode and allow you to view images in slide mode.

2. Scaling

If the image is too big or too small, you can scale it using Command (⌘) + Minus (-) or Command (⌘) + Plus (+).

3. Stretch the selection to full screen

If you want to quickly enlarge the selected fragment, select the desired element in the image, and then click command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + 8.

4. Adjust the color of the image in the application View

Using the app «View» and Command combinations (⌘) + Option (⌥) + C you can adjust the color of the image. Pressing Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + C will open a mini window with editing tools, with which you can change the exposure, contrast, the shadows, saturation, temperature, etc. These tools may well be an alternative to some costly photo editors.


5. Rotate Images

application «View» Allows you to rotate images left or right. In order to rotate the picture 90 degrees to the left, press Command (⌘) + L, if the image needs to be rotated 90 degrees to the right, then, respectively, press Command (⌘) + R.

6. Circumcision (framing) images in the application view

If you need to quickly crop the image, press Command (⌘) + K. Trim borders appear on the screen, which you can form with a mouse or trackpad.

7. Toggle Sidebar Options

When opening in «Viewing» You can customize a large number of files. By default, macOS files are displayed as icons, but if desired, the content can be presented as a list, clicking Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + 3. Command Combination (⌘) + Option (⌥) + 1 helps to completely hide the sidebar, a Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + 2 allows you to return to the icon view.

8. How to show or hide a magnifying glass in the application View

To trigger or hide a magnifying glass, just press the key ` (to the left of key 1).

9. Show or hide the Image inspector

In order to find out detailed information about the file, open in the app «View», press Command (⌘) + I. So you can find out the date of creation and modification or file size, if we are talking about the image, or other information, associated with that file type, which you opened.

10. Copy open file

If you want to create a copy of the open file and save it as a new file, press Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + S. Now you can save a copy under a different name.
